Mr. Olubunmi Akinremi is a seasoned finance professional with over 30 year’ experience in investment banking and transaction advisory across Nigeria, USA, and the UK. Through out his career, Bunmi has been instrumental in various fundraising efforts, raising more than US$5 billion in the Nigerian market. His expertise spans corporate finance assignments for leading entrepreneurs in the upstream Oil and Gas, Real Estate, and Telecommunications sectors, demonstrating an analytical and execution-driven approach to transactions.
Bunmi has a rich history of corporate restructuring, financing transactions, and strategic leadership across global financial markets. His career highlights include landmark deals such as the merger of Standard Trust Bank and United Bank for Africa PLC in 2005, a milestone in sub-Saharan Africa’s banking sector. He established the Corporate Finance unit at Guaranty Trust Bank and facilitated the restructuring of Econet (Airtel), securing its future through innovative fundraising.
Bunmi recently served as the Managing Director of Investment Banking, and Deputy Group CEO, at United Capital PLC, where he led financing solutions for a broad spectrum of clients, including large corporates, governments, and multilateral agencies. His experience broadens to the public sector, serving as a Senior Special Assistant on Economic and Policy matters to two consecutive Nigerian presidents from 2008 to 2015. Bunmi’s leadership experience includes serving as a Non-Executive Director, and Audit Committee, on the board of companies within the financial services and real estate sectors. Early in his career, he worked as a senior manager with Grant Thorton (UK), gaining significant experience in private equity transactions and high-profile restructuring projects during the early 1990s recession.
Bunmi holds a B.A in Economics from the University of Essex, an MBA from Cranfield University, and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
